What Is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment is a dental procedure used to remove infected or inflamed pulp (nerve tissue) inside a tooth. This treatment relieves pain, stops infection from spreading, and saves your natural tooth from extraction.

At Retaj Medical Center, our experienced endodontists use advanced technology and gentle techniques to make root canal treatment comfortable, safe, and stress-free.

When Do You Need a Root Canal?

You may need root canal treatment if you experience:

  • Severe or persistent tooth pain
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers
  • Swollen or tender gums
  • A darkened or discolored tooth
  • Pain while chewing or biting
  • A dental abscess or pimple on the gums

Benefits of Root Canal Treatment

  • Relieves tooth pain and discomfort
  • Saves your natural tooth
  • Prevents spread of infection
  • Restores normal chewing function
  • Preserves jawbone and tooth alignment
  • Improves oral health and comfort
  • Prevents the need for extraction or implants

Orthodontic Treatment

01 Step

Clinical Examination & Diagnosis

A comprehensive oral examination is performed, including digital radiographs, to assess the extent of infection and confirm the need for root canal treatment.

02 Step

Local Anesthesia & Isolation

The affected tooth is anesthetized to ensure patient comfort. A rubber dam is placed to isolate the tooth and maintain a sterile working environment.

03 Step

Access & Pulp Removal

A small access opening is created to reach the pulp chamber. The infected or inflamed pulp tissue is carefully removed from the root canals.

04 Step

Cleaning, Shaping & Disinfection

The canals are cleaned, shaped, and disinfected using specialized instruments and antibacterial solutions to eliminate bacteria and debris.

05 Step

Canal Filling & Sealing

The cleaned canals are filled with a biocompatible material and sealed to prevent reinfection.

06 Step

Final Restoration

The tooth is restored with a permanent filling or crown to regain strength, function, and protection.

Usually 30–90 minutes, depending on the tooth and infection level.

Yes, most patients resume normal activities the same day.

No — modern root canal treatment is usually no more uncomfortable than getting a filling. With advanced anesthesia, rotary instruments, and gentle techniques, most patients feel little to no pain during the procedure and experience relief afterward.

With proper care and a crown if needed, it can last a lifetime.

Saving your natural tooth is usually the best option for function, appearance, and long-term oral health.
